Ontario Library Association (OLA) Super Conference MMX

Welcome to
Super Conference 2010

‘Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’
Howard Thurman

We live in a time of wonder, innovation and imagination. In counterpoint to this reality, we also live in a time where 80% of the population does not have access to a steady, safe source of drinking water, and where the developing world, in an effort to climb out of the abyss of poverty, risks the safety of it’s citizens in a quest for the riches of developed nations. It is this dichotomy that is the constant of our lives.

If, as experienced at last year’s conference, learning is a human drive, then the passion for ideas, causes, truths and justice is the logical extension born of that drive. Learning is one element of living, action is the next. Who we are, what we do and the impact of our actions to bring change into the world and shape the future to be different from the present is this year’s challenge.

Libraries are places to explore these ideas and ignite passions. We can impact individuals, our communities and, by extension, the world. Envision libraries without borders, connecting people world-wide to embrace the possible and make change happen. It is within us to create passionate learning communities in our libraries, wherever they are, and be the driving force for wonder, innovation and imagination for everyone, everywhere.

We can choose to be passive or passionate. Step up your passion. Welcome to the 17th annual Super Conference in the OLA’s 110th year!
